Winter Escape

At 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, eight intrepid hikers from the ChaseDesign Adirondack High Peaks Hiking Club began a winter ascent of Big Slide via The Brothers. Equipped with snow shoes, microspikes and trekking poles, undaunted by clouds and the 10° F temperature with 20 m.p.h. winds, they hiked seven miles, mostly upwards, in a little less than six hours, and were rewarded with clearing skies, bright sunshine and extraordinary views at the summit.
